The Walkout (New York, USA, 2009)

Following the so-called Great Recession of 2008, our conceptual art church, the Sanctuary of Hope, organized a walkout of the city as a demonstration on August 23rd, 2009. It took us 3 days and 42 miles to walk up Broadway Avenue (the oldest road in New York) from Union Square in Manhattan to Croton Point on the Hudson River. Along the way we camped out in public parks in our sleeping bags. People were allowed to walk with us for as long or as little as they wanted to. Under a hundred people showed on day 1 in Union Square. Only 7 of us managed to reach Croton Point on day 3.
